Ormond Beach

Ormond and Daytona are very close to my heart (and not just because I love old cars and motorcycles). My dad and my hubby's mother's family are from them. For many years we would travel there every several months, almost like a second home. I love being by the water; the weather, the plants, the imagery, everything beach related. While we didn't do many fun things in Ormond Beach while we were there we did stop by Fortunato Park on our last day.
All that remains from the old Ormond Hotel

I hadn't planned on wearing a cardie but my sunburn looked pretty wicked so I covered it up.
Whenever I get a sunburn people tend to comment about me not being from Florida, LOL, I was born and raised here but my mom's a red head and I got her skin.

Pet Cemetery

We love cemeteries, they are one of the best ways to learn about the history of an area. While exploring a very opulent one we noticed a large weeping angel like monument in the back, it was a pet cemetery. I was glad I had my trusty TARDIS necklace in case we needed to escape in a hurry.

Sorry about us in the reflection, it was very bright out
Of course this brought tears to my eyes
On the way back to the hotel we passed a forgotten and crumbling cemetery and this beauty was perched atop the entrance gate. She was only about a foot tall but was was of the loveliest angels we saw all day.

Fun Fun Fun

Things around here are getting a little more normal. I am still trying to catch up on sleep, today I slept in and got groceries instead of going for a walk. I treated myself and got sushi for lunch, our grocery store makes great sushi that is about half the price of going out for it. The flowers I got for the kitchen this week were extra nice. I went with the $6 bouquet instead of my normal $4 one, I was sold when I saw two lovely roses and a big orange gerbera daisy in it.

Isn't this post office fabulous?

Back to the weekend:

While eating breakfast Saturday morning I noticed a blurb on the news about a car show in Daytona. We were still unsure if we were going to go to Beach Street for the day or hang around in Ormond and go to the gardens, the car show sold me, I LOVE old cars (and it was on Beach Street).

Sorry about the pictureful post but I had so much fun on Saturday I wanted to share it all. Lots of shots didn't even get included since I think I could have frozen some computers with all the photos.
Behold my dream car. Well, it wouldn't have to be a convertible, but I WILL have a Bel Air someday.

How can you not fall in love with a face like that?
Now this is a Corvette
A gorgeous Impala. Mom, I know you would have wanted to see this one.

I wana go surfing now
Look in the hubcap, my hubby got artsy
Morbid I know, but I have always wanted a hearse. I was bidding on one a few years back. I was going to paint it purple and keep a wooden coffin in the back (you know, for storage).

Very Sunset Blvd
I don't know which was more amazing- the Studebaker or the Schwinn Sting-ray in the back
I was told it matched my hat

I'm partial to Willys since I have a 63 CJ3B to restore someday

What can I say? It was amazing.
Even with all the hustle and bustle we got to get chocolate from Angell and Phelps, a local chocolatier on Beach Street. We splurged on giant peanut butter cups. Yum!
No point in doing my hair that day, it was so windy.

We didn't have time to go through the museum, next time for sure.
Seeing all the amazing cars was worth getting the little sunburn I managed to get. One of my shoulders is still pretty red but the rest has calmed down.

By the Sea

This past week has been a mix of emotions. Dealing with the loss of a dear family member, traveling to the visitation and funeral, PMS, car troubles (while on the road), driving through horrible weather, and being out of town for several days on short notice is enough to drive anyone batty. But you know what, we are back home cuddling our furchildren and that makes everything feel better.

Friday was Grandma's funeral. Grandma was a nurse in World War II and reached the rank of Captain before retiring from service, a young pair soldiers gave her a beautiful and touching tribute by playing taps and folding the flag on her casket. We couldn't have planned for a more beautiful day, Grandma luck no doubt. I do have photos of this but it is too personal to share and we will be keeping them just for the family.

After the funeral the family retired to the hotel for time to reflect and re hydrate (crying is dehydrating). That evening we drove down to Ponce Inlet for a lovely dinner and drinks at Down the Hatch. It was nice to get out and talk to everyone while being in a laid back environment.

After we finished our amazing dinner we drove over to the lighthouse. It was closed for the day but we just wanted to see it and take pictures so that was just fine.
 My hubby and me <3

We got group shots with the family too, I'm glad we brought the tripod along.
