Foggy Day

This past weekend really knocked me on my rear. Friday night Hubby told me the check engine light had come in on Jetta so Saturday morning we planned on taking it to the auto parts store to get the code read but the car would not start. It not only had a bad battery but also electrical issues, we spent the whole day trying to work on the issues and getting it to turn over with no luck. Sunday morning we finally got it to turn over so we let it run to build up a bit of a charge then took it down to get the check engine code read. It was not a good diagnoses, and we were looking at BIG repair bills coupled with the issue of finding parts that are no longer being made. Hubby and I made the tough call to purchase a new to us car instead of repairing the Jetta. It has been no secret I have wanted to get a newer car, I have been researching and test driving cars for months now so luckily we weren't totally overwhelmed by what to get. By a stroke of luck I found the model car I had wanted in a color I loved with under 25,000 miles. It will be tough working around a car payment now but should be easier on our finances than paying high interest credit payments on repair bills for a 20 year old car that might not even last another year. I have been thankful to have had the Jetta the past 3 years, Hubby's Grandmother would have been glad it lasted as long as it did.

This morning was incredibly foggy, I could barely even see our neighbor's house. Iwoke up a bit early so I look my extra time to tromp through a few cemeteries and take some photos.
I stopped at the Phillip's mausoleum first because face it, you can't get much spookier than this thing in the fog.

This stone always tugs on my heart

Next I visited the Old City Cemetery. It is decaying more and more, while the grounds are maintained it is sad seeing so much history crumble into the ground.
This photo almost feels like New England to me

March

Wow, it's March already. Hubby and I planted our spring/summer garden on the first. All the baby plants are tucked in the dirt safe and sound. It has been a little warm, close to 80 degrees, this week so keeping them wet enough has been a little bit of a struggle, we may lose a few of our smallest ones with weak root structures but we always start lots of plants in case.

We had a fairly slow weekend, I was feeling a bit under the weather though, so it was a welcome treat. On Sunday Hubby decided to take me to the Battle of Natural Bridge reenactment. We were able to arrive just in time for the battle reenactment. I didn't get as many photos as last year but at least we got to see the battle this time.

At the end of the battle, the playing of Taps.

I had a good laugh when we walked through the encampments on the way out, I made a Union soldier do a double take and he told me I was a bit out of my era.

I've been meaning to put together a post about this but it never worked up into a full post so I'll add it here. I adore postcards. When my family would camp across the country or when we took weekend excursions I would always buy postcards at the places we traveled to. Often I would keep them as mementos but on the longer trips we took I always had a friend I would write to. When my niece was born I started sending her postcards with beautiful images from Hubby and my adventures. She is only two and doesn't read them herself yet but her mommy reads them to her and she gets to see animals/locations/things that she may never see living in Hawaii. The post office always thinks I'm silly for buying whole books of postcard stamps but hey, I go through them quicker than standard stamps.

I'm looking for a postcard buddy or two. I love sending mail and I miss getting it myself. I mainly travel in Florida and Georgia and I would love to get images from other locations. If you are interested in being my postcard buddy please send me a DM on Instagram and we can chat a little.

Day Trip part 2 Lighthouse

When we got down to the lighthouse we sat for a few minutes and devoured our boiled peanuts. There was a small wedding group just finishing up photos, they were trying to get shots before the smoke rolled while while all the photographers were sitting there waiting for the smoke.
Our view from the bench as we ate
With the marsh water so low it was easy to walk out and get good points of view of the lighthouse (if you could dodge the other photographers, that is).

It felt like we were walking on plains, this area is normally under water.
While sometimes I wish I lived somewhere else, North Florida is truly special. It is just under an hour drive to take in a view like this. The range of ecosystems and historic locations you can visit in a single day is impressive. The St Marks Light is the second oldest lighthouse in Florida.

We walked one of the trails by the lighthouse, this white tree stood out against the smoke in the air.
This was one of the largest gators we spotted that day, it was a good 7 foot or so.
As the sun got lower in the sky and the smoke rolled in more we left the lighthouse and started home.
On our way out we stopped by the butterfly garden to take some picturesque photos and watch the sun drop a little lower.

Hubby was right, he said this location looked like a postcard.
